Jan 14 2008, 9:36 PM EST Good article Steve, but I really don't think that either of the front runners of the democratic party can possibly win a national election. My question is why two republican states can decide who will be the leader of the democratic party? Isn't it about time to have a national primary so that everyone has some say about the process. Personally I don't think that 1-2 terms in the senate is enough experience to be president. With either Obama or Clinton our nation will only become more divided. Heaven help us if the race is close and the republicans try to steal this one. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 14 2008, 9:59 PM EST I'm getting the same sinking feeling i had in 2004, when there were so many dem candidates, all geared to divide and weaken the party, rather than pull together to dislodge da shrub, who had already done incalculable damage. now, bless 'em, we've got symbols of all the so-called disenfranchised, all fighting and splitting the democratic party into tiny, ineffective fragments. i think anything could happen between now and the all too distant, and possibly hijacked, elections. Do you find this valuable? |

Jan 14 2008, 10:12 PM EST At this point I really don't care if they hijack the elections. Right now we really need a wise president, someone who knows how to solve the mess we are in. None we are stuck with the 3 least experienced cadidates and they are smearing each other. I don't see the white working class voting for Obama, nor will the republicans let him win. Hillary will divide the country more then it already is. I live in Michigan and I have no say in who will run because the state democrates moved the election up. This is the sorriest lot of candidates I have ever seen run for President. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 15 2008, 6:59 PM EST I live in Michigan and am making sure that my vote either of them. I thought about it alot. And decided that Hucklebee feels that Jesus wants him to take care of the poor. I am a social worker. I know that the republicans don't like Hucklebee. So for the first time in 25 years I voted for a republican. If the republicans in Iowa and NH can give us the top two candidates from hell, I can give them Old Huck, hay we've been the laughing stock for the world for 8 years, four more isn't too bad. At least of the candidates from hell loose we have a republican who cares about the poor. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We're both registered Republicans and we vote for the second best Republican in the primaries. I have never voted for a Republican in the presidential election. Do you find this valuable? |

Jan 15 2008, 8:13 PM EST Thank you John, Maybe I am just disappointed because the candidates leading my party just aren't living up to my ideals of my party. As a school teacher you must be seeing much of the same things that I am seeing. Remembering the 60's when it was important to help those who had less then ideal lifes. I remember when they wanted to lower the sign of class rooms so that children could learn. It seems like the important services are being cut and there are not the programs that are so badly needed. Do you find this valuable? |

Here is a man that has openly stated that his goal is to shape the Constitution of the United States to conform to the Christian Bible. THAT IS A FIRST! Do you think for one minute that the BS that Bush has brought about will be nullified by Hucklebee? Not a chance. He will keep all the "faith based" BS in place and add to them. We can't stand too much more of Jesus running the country; we've had seven years of it already and look where it has gotten us. Romney is no better and neither is McCain. Do you find this valuable? |

Jan 17 2008, 10:40 PM EST Great question. I Googled it. Here's what I found: Only 5 Presidents have been elected directly from the Senate. Your right John Kennedy was one of them. The others were Warren Harding, Benjamin Harrison, Franklin Pierce and William Harrison. A total of 12 presidents served part of their careers as US Senators. In addition to the ones listed above they include: Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Harry Truman, Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan, John Tyler (A distant relative of mine), and Andrew Jackson. 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
